Traveling is a luxury, but short distance traveling is definitely something that everyone has done in their lives. To leave the country, however, is a whole different animal and requires a different travel mindset. Packing becomes an art form because when you go abroad its best to bring hat you need and not travel with unnecessary baggage. So what do you need to bring? Well, here is what you need to know before you go overseas.
Bringing every item of clothing you have for a trip is just not feasible when you travel abroad. A small amount of luggage is the key to traveling with ease and so that means you need to pare down what you have. In terms of abundant clothing items, underpants and socks fall into this realm, but for everything else the rule is less is more. Both hostels and hotels have laundry on site so if you bring just 2 or 3 pairs of pants, you should be fine.
If you limit your pants, you must invariably limit your shoes. What you cannot bring in terms of quantity you should make up for in terms of quality. A good shoe that you walk in for miles and miles for the length of your trip will be one of the best companions on your trip. Outside of your everyday shoe you can pack one or two more pairs that can be considered dressier for nighttime when you’re more apt to try some fine dining establishments.
It is almost impossible that you will not purchase items abroad and this will invariably include all of the fashions that you find yourself surrounded by. Being swept up in the culture around you is part of the fun of traveling to another country. Any additional clothing depends on the season that you’re traveling so bring sweaters or jackets accordingly.
In terms of documentation, remember your passport! Check to make sure everything is up to date and make copies of it to stow away in your luggage. Your passport should be on you at all times, but if in the event something happens your copy will allow you to go to the nearest embassy and sort through getting a new one. Be sure to also do this with any paper tickets you have for your flight as well.
You can pay to make your phone into a world phone, but why lug all of the technology that you should be escaping through your vacation? If you need to make calls there are copious calling cards that you can purchase, for an extremely low price that will allow you to use pay phones and any hotel phones.
If you want the phones for your companions, just set times to meet up and get out there without overly scheduling everything. Seeing the world is a rare opportunity. Pack light and be ready to bring your adventure home with you!
